Bethesda made waves on Twitch today when ZeniMax Online Studios' Rich Lambert and Bethesda's Pete Hines took to the stage at the HyperX Esports Arena to announce Elder Scroll Online's plans for 2020. Set to begin with a free prologue for all players, the new DLC, titled Greymoor, planned to rollout over the next year has been presented to be a continuous storyline that will evolve and grow throughout the year.

Greymoor will be the first Chapter Update to hit ESO since Elsweyr launched in 2019, this time taking players back into the land of Skyrim from the latest title in the Elder Scrolls game series. Along with another trip into the frozen lands of the Skyrim, Greymoor will bring a whole host of new features into ESO in 2020.

One of the most notable additions into ESO with the new Greymoor chapter is the year long storyline, Dark Heart of Skyrim. The story revolves around and ancient vampire who leads an army of monsters, including other vampires, werewolves, and witches, across Skyrim through the dark depths of Blackreach Cavern. This will reportedly be the darkest storyline in Elder Scrolls history, with the ancient vampire's monstrous army twisting the already war torn land of Skyrim into a dark and twisted realm of horrors.

The newly introduced areas will feel somewhat familiar to how they appeared in Skyrim, although the surface level areas will be limited to the western end of the region and the depths of Blackreach Cavern have been expanded to become an entire region on its own. The new chapter will begin with a prologue quest that is free to all ESO players, followed by the Harrowstorm DLC that will appear before Greymoor fully launches in May for PC, and later in June for PS4 and Xbox One. Later in the year, another dungeon DLC pack will launch in the early fall of 2020, followed by a story DLC pack that will release in that winter to wrap things up.

All of these new aspects coming to the game make for quite the announcement for ESO fans who have been waiting to hear about the future of the ongoing title since Dragonhold released back in 2019. Supposedly, Skyrim and Blackreach Cavern together will reportedly be the largest area introduced into ESO yet, setting players up for a daunting undertaking as they explore the frozen land of the Nords once again. Combine that with a story that will slowly unfold over the next year, players should be happy with what 2020 will bring them as they wait for Elder Scrolls 6 to launch.

Greymoor is set to release on May 18th for PC and Mac, and June 2nd for PS4 and Xbox One.
