There are still many months to wait before The Last of Us 2 finally hits store shelves. While many are content to while away their time speculating what will be in the sequel to one of the decade's most enjoyed zombie games, one fan decided to do something a little more constructive with their time.

Similar to the first game, the announcements and available footage for The Last of Us 2 have been rather sparse, and have led to a great deal of speculation. However, the small snippets that have been revealed were more than enough for one fan to create something and show off their creation on Reddit.

Reddit user FilmLadle created a very short video showing gameplay for The Last of Us 2 in the style of the popular LEGO video games. It's only a couple of seconds of basic stuff: Ellie draws a bow, puts something in her backpack, etc. The very last part shows Ellie riding a horse in a beautifully rendered LEGO landscape. FilmLadle has stated in the responses to the post that they want to add on to the video in the future, though how much is anyone's guess.

The thought of a LEGO version of The Last of Us 2, or its precursor for that matter, is certainly funny, but not completely outlandish. The tall, grand ruins would certainly lend themselves well to LEGO sets or environments in a game, and the collecta-thons that most LEGO games manifest as could find a happy home in the wide, scary, beautiful world of The Last of Us. Some of the most popular LEGO video games ever made have taken traditionally gritty but adventurous settings, like the Indiana Jones films, and turned them into big hits.

The appeal of LEGO is more widespread and pervasive than most would give it credit for, starting well before the incredibly popular LEGO Movie and having a long history in video games. Newcomers to the games are often surprised to discover their exceptional quality, something that extends from the big franchise tie-in titles on consoles to the standalone LEGO games on mobile devices. There are very few LEGO games of truly poor quality, a standard that is studiously maintained to the point where the idea of a Last of Us LEGO game almost feels like a no brainer, putting together two quality franchises.

In any case, the video is definitely worth a watch, and it is by no means the only fantastic LEGO fan creation when it comes to video games.

The Last of Us 2 will release on May 29th for the PlayStation 4.
