A new year means many more changes are coming for Overwatch players. But this also means there are plenty of new interactions to find between heroes and the environment. For example, players have discovered that Sigma, the insane gravity-controlling tank, can reach to infinity or just a bit beyond normal reach with the side effects of his weapons.

Sigma fires "Hyperspheres" as his primary weapon which deal direct damage on impact and splash damage in a short radius. Furthermore, the orbs also slightly knockback anyone hit, including Sigma himself. Using this knockback, Sigma can potentially get to places he otherwise might not be able to climb, opening up several opportunities on various Overwatch maps.

Reddit user Toddeh_1 posted a video on the Overwatch subreddit that showcased the ability to get Sigma up to higher ground on the Hanamura map. Like many other heroes, Sigma normally can't make the jump to the upper door near the first chokepoint. However, by aiming Hypersphere orbs at the ground, the bounce and subsequent knockback will keep him airborne long enough to land on the platform. Note that the recoil will slightly hurt Sigma, but the damage is very negligible and can immediately be restored by any support healers. The brief levitation can also be achieved by throwing a rock while jumping, but this will require charging up Accretion as well as put the ability on cooldown.

If successfully pulled off, the spot will give Sigma a nearly unparalleled horizontal view of the chokepoint normally accessible only by a few heroes. From here, he can rain Hyperspheres, rocks, and other deadly projectiles from above for a few seconds or even minutes depending on the enemy team's attention span. It's hard to say whether this could be an effective tactic for a tank designed to shield his teammates. However, there is something to be said for dropping rocks or even opponents themselves on their heads when least expected.

Although unintended, it isn't a game-breaking problem that Sigma can pull off these feats with his gravity powers. Fellow tank D.Va has a buff on the PBE which allows her to fly all the up to the top of Lijiang Tower with her boosters. Furthermore, other tanks like Reinhardt, Winston, or Wrecking Ball have their own mobility at the similar cost of unable being to protect the team while using them to travel across the map.

In the end, Sigma has historically been nerfed several times for his performance and this "glitch" might put him back on the watchlist. However, there are very few opportunities on certain maps to exploit this ability and it seems more likely the feature will remain going into the 2020 release of Overwatch 2.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
