A tweet from Crowfall prompted some responses from creative director J Todd Coleman that could perhaps perk a couple of ears, offering some promises for the game’s future both in terms of content and its launch.

The tweet in question asked fans whether they preferred strategy or survival in their MMORPG titles, and Coleman surfaced to provide his own thoughts. According to him, Crowfall first leaned heavily on survival mechanics, then began to add more strategy-focused elements until the survival features were completely taken away to make the game what he promises will be “the most strategic virtual universe (IMO surpassing EVE Online)” by launch. When asked by someone about when launch will be, Coleman replied that it’s sooner than one might think. “We’ll be talking specifics soon, so stay tuned,” he writes. (The game has already been delayed several times, though it’s only just reaching its fourth year of development post-Kickstarter, so gamers aren’t quite to flipping tables yet.)

Readers will recall that, in early December 2019, Coleman remarked that 2020 still had some work to do in the form of releasing the War of the Gods update, the Frostweaver class, and some additional polish, all of which leads in to a beta release. MOP’s own Fight or Kite column checked out the game in person last autumn.
