Mod creator xD0IT has released what is undoubtedly one of the more unique modifications available for EA’s action shooter Star Wars Battlefront II.

Thanks to xD0IT’s hard work, the recently released character model for Kylo Ren can now be skinned to resemble Pope John Paul II, who served as head of the Catholic church from 1978 until his death in 2005. The mod comes with three different skins, a custom portrait, Star Cards, and a yellow lightsaber.

xD0IT provided no explanation for the decision to pay homage to the former Pope in this way and the mod description states simply: “Here, in this town, in Wadowice everything has started.” Wadowice, Poland, is the birthplace of the man born as Karol Józef Wojtyła who later became Pope John Paul II at the age of 58.

The Battlefront II modder has been busy in recent weeks. In addition to the Pope character skin, six other mods have been uploaded to Nexus Mods by xD0IT. The most recent is a skin that turns Lando Calrissian into Krzysztof Krawczyk, a Polish pop singer and guitarist. Jerzy Urban, a Polish journalist and writer, as well as the Polish politician and philosopher Janusz Korwin-Mikke have also had their likenesses brought into the game.

There are admittedly a plethora of mods for Battlefront II. Players interested in customizing their experience can retexture game maps and character models, import a variety of player-created maps, and even alter the look of the game to resemble 2003’s well-loved role-playing game Knights of the Old Republic. Playing as a former Pope, however, is one surprising mod that many players probably didn’t even know they wanted until they found it.

Star Wars Battlefront II is the seventh game in the Battlefront series of video games and is the sequel to 2015’s reboot. Despite the initial controversy surrounding the game’s use of loot boxes and microtransactions, the game eventually recovered and now has a thriving player base and modding community. The game features a story campaign and three additional modes for solo players, as well as a number of online multiplayer modes that can support up to 40 simultaneous players and maps that span all three eras of the Star Wars movie franchise.

Star Wars Battlefront II was released on November 17, 2017, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
