Borderlands' world and lore is a wild beast. Life is cheap on Pandora and the many other planets players visit in the third entry. Characters crack wise about morbid subjects like death and corporate oppression all the time. Because of its inanity, a whole lot of things about it just don't make sense on both the game play and narrative side of things.

Fans voice their reactions to these bizarre logical missteps in the form of memes, because if a piece of pop culture lives long enough, it will turn into a series of the joke format. The ten funniest Borderlands 3 logic memes can be found below. Maybe the games barely make sense, but that doesn't stop them from being a blast to play. Even if they were taken seriously, they would be far from the biggest controversies surrounding the franchise.

10 Rare Eridium

Borderlands 3 iridium meme

Eridium is the most valuable collectible players get in the trilogy. In Borderlands 3 it is used to purchase cosmetics as well as weapons in a special shop on Sanctuary which only accepts payment in the rare substance. If it is so valuable, why is it so often found in cardboard boxes and the like? At least in the third game it is mainly farmed from enemies and mined from crystals found on the world, but one would think the world would be picked dry of it if it was so sought-after.

9 So That's Why It Took So Long

Why borderlands 3 took so lon

The first two games have some fairly iconic box art. The Bandit's finger guns pointing at his own head gives a fairly solid indication of the series' tone. The running joke explaining the long wait between Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3 involves a quip about Gearbox being unsure how to draw a bandit pointing three finger guns at himself.

After years of trying, it seems like they gave up and went with the play on Christian artwork, only instead of a holy figure surrounded by light it is a bandit. Not quite finger guns, but it still gets the point across.

8 Marcus Doesn't Understand Trade

borderlands 3 marcus gun meme

This occurrence is common when fetching guns for Marcus. It also happens when getting items for other people as well. Assuming it doesn't have some sentimental value, why would any of the quest givers pay so much for a dinky weapon or accessory? The player shouldn't complain too much, though. As long as the NPC pays up, the Vault Hunter could care less whether they are recovering a priceless artifact or a worthless trinket.

7 All Talk

How to kick butt without feet

After all these years Claptrap should really know better than to run his mouth like he's the toughest guy around. He has already lost almost all of his relatives after the Claptrap's New Robot Revolution DLC. Napoleon complexes don't go away easily.

The polarizing character has a good friend in Ed 209 from Robocop, who was also bested by a staircase. At least Claptrap looks harmless, while Ed 209 was designed as a merciless killing machine. At the end of the day, everything has a weakness; some Achilles heels are just more embarrassing than others.

6 That Seems Fair

Crimson Raiders leader

Fans are divided over Ava. Some find her whiny and blame her for all the trouble several of the characters get into. Others sympathize with her tragic backstory and understand her overzealous enthusiasm for vengeance. Regardless of which side one is on, everybody found it a little weird how Lilith handed over the Crimson Raiders to a child upon her grand sacrifice. Granted, she is a siren, but she has a lot to learn before becoming a true leader. Only sequels will tell if she has what it takes to lead a ragtag army.

5 Wasteful

throwing out lootand ammo

So much loot is found in dumpsters. As odd as this seems at first, it kind of makes sense upon deeper thought. Players often throw away or sell their useless finds, and they have to end up somewhere. NPCs probably do exactly the same thing with their disappointing discoveries. This still doesn't explain how money ends up there, however. Maybe bandits use a different currency and consider the regular cash worthless.

4 Doesn't Seem Too Safe To Me

safe zones meme

Several areas are strictly off limits. Funnily enough, the play areas are called safe zones. Anyone who has spent some time within the game knows these designated areas are anything but safe. Enemies and deadly wildlife are constantly lurking, waiting to take a bite out of the Vault Hunter. Then again, maybe these places are safe relative to what lies beyond the limits of where players are allowed to traverse. Perhaps something unimaginably terrifying walks in those forbidden zones.

3 This Is Why People Despise Ava

Ava borderlands 3 meme

Ava's recklessness gets Maya killed by the Calypsos. Her eagerness for vengeance got her into a sticky situation and her mentor bit it while saving her. Even after this event, Ava pins some of the blame on Lilith for not being an all powerful entity.

The Siren from the first game is hyped up as the Firehawk, but she isn't omnipotent. Ava eventually becomes more reasonable towards the end of the game, though remorse doesn't rectify a deadly mistake.

2 They Just Want The Animal Killing To Be Fair

logic meme

Borderlands 2 espouses the evils of animal experimentation. However, in both the 2012 and 2019 title players massacre tons of wildlife, somewhat muddying the pro-animal message. Maybe Gearbox just wants the human on animal violence to be fair, similar to how some people don't think hunting is a real sport because one team doesn't know they are playing. If they really wanted a level playing field, people would be taking on bears and deer with their bare hands.

1 Fast Travel Everywhere

Fast travel outpost vault meme

Fast travel is a big help in a game like Borderlands. What's weird is how abundant they are in the world. Even places where no human has been in over a century have fast travel outposts waiting to be used. It's hard to complain, though. If the game strove for realism, players would hate logically placed fast travel stations making access to certain areas a chore. Maybe a cutscene could show the player or an NPC installing a fast travel outpost. Borderlands was never a stickler for the details, however.
