Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds only just released at the end of October, but it quickly became one of the biggest video game hits of 2019. With December 12 being The Game Awards--in which The Outer Worlds had several nominations--Obsidian posted to its forums to thank fans for their support, and in doing so also dropped some information about upcoming DLC.

At this year's Game Awards, The Outer Worlds scored nominations for Best Narrative, Best Performance (Ashly Burch ), Best RPG, and Game of the Year. Although all the awards ended up going to different winners, Obsidian made sure to thank its fans for voting for The Outer Worlds and supporting the game since its release.

Unlike some of the other dramatic game reveals at The Game Awards, Obsidian opted to quietly share its news via the community forum in the following days.  "To all of those who voted for us in The Game Awards, you are all fantastic and we are so grateful for your support. The reception to The Outer Worlds has been unbelievable to see and even just being nominated means a lot," Obsidian wrote. But that wasn't all; Obsidian continued on to say that "the journey isn't over yet," also sharing that more Outer Worlds was coming in the form of DLC. However, Obsidian only confirmed two things in this post: that the DLC would expand the base game's story, and that the DLC would release sometime in 2020.

Given the lack of other details in Obsidian's message, it's fair to assume that the DLC's release is still a ways off, and the developer probably won't share too much more until after the new year. With only one sentence to go off of, what this DLC could entail is anybody's guess. They wrapped up the main story of The Outer Worlds pretty neatly, so the DLC could even be an entirely new story, albeit on a smaller scale, or perhaps a new companion to join the team and bring a series of missions with them.

Either way, fans should be happy to know there will be DLC at all; given Obsidian's many projects in the works concurrently, they could've just left the game as is. Instead, it looks like Obsidian will continue adding to The Outer Worlds for at least a portion of 2020.

The Outer Worlds is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version coming early next year.
