Destiny 2 developer Bungie plans to reveal its plans for the game's upcoming Season 9 with a stream on its Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube channels early next month. With the title Season of the Dawn, the new content will pick up where the game's Shadowkeep expansion and Season 8 left off. Additionally, Season 9 is set to bring some long-awaited changes to Destiny 2's sandbox.

Updates for Destiny 2 have periodically released since the loot shooter launched in 2017, with a regular seasonal schedule being put in place with last year's Forsaken expansion and the accompanying Annual Pass. The RPG has continued with this system in its third year, with a battle pass-style progression and reward system being put in place during Season 8 alongside the launch of the free-to-play New Light update.

Bungie's reveal stream for Destiny 2: Season of the Dawn is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4 at 10 a.m. PST / 1 p.m. EST. The studio has stayed mum on what the actual content planned for Season of the Dawn will entail. However, the developer has promised some updates to the game's sandbox, including a rework of some of the subclass trees for Solar-powered Guardians, designed to make them more viable choices for PvP activities like the Crucible and Iron Banner.

Season 9 of Destiny 2 will also bring a nerf for the infamous Recluse SMG, a Crucible pinnacle weapon whose Master of Arms perk made it a must-have for PvE players despite primarily being designed for the game's PVP modes. Xenophage, an exotic machine gun introduced with Shadowkeep, is set to receive a 50% damage boost against AI enemies due to the weapon's underwhelming performance since release.

Fans can likely also expect some information about the Dawning, Destiny 2's annual in-game event celebrating the holiday season.  Last year's event introduced machine guns into the game with a unique legendary weapon called the Avalanche, as well as an ornate set of armor and cosmetic items for Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans. Bungie has kept quiet on whether the fan-favorite Sparrow Racing League minigame from Destiny will come back with this year's Dawning, but the mode's association with the event is enough to garner hope for its return. Season of the Dawn arrives in-game on December 10.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Stadia.
