Online shooter Battleborn is set to close in 2021

Online first-person shooter Battleborn - developed by Gearbox - will no longer be supported in 2021.

In a Twitter update (below), publisher 2K announced the news. The company revealed that as of February 2020 in-game currency will no longer be available.

Besides the changes to in-game currency, the game will run as normal until its permanent shutdown in January 2021.

“Today we have begun the process of gradually sunsetting Battleborn. Starting February 24, 2020, you will no longer be able to purchase virtual currency for use in the game,” said 2K.

“The game’s servers will remain active and the game will continue to be playable until January 2021. However, once servers are deactivated, Battleborn will no longer be playable.

“We’re extremely proud of the work that went into the game, and want to extend our deep appreciation to all the fans for their support. We’ll continue to provide updates on the sunsetting of the title when appropriate.”

Work on the team-shooter had died down in 2017 - just over one year after launch. The game will shut down after less than years since its launch.

Despite being launched within weeks of Overwatch, the boss of Gearbox - Randy Pitchford - didn’t believe Blizzard's title caused any harm to the sales of Battleborn.
