The Division 2 ponders the future of its communication and state-of-the-game streams

How much is too much information about a game? That depends on how much the game actually has on offer. Over the years, we’ve seen multiple games downshift their community streams and dev blogs as the games’ production itself as slowed down. (And on the other end of that, there are games like Sea of Thieves and Camelot Unchained, which faithfully put out weekly updates even when there’s nothing super interesting to share.)

The Division 2 is plainly navigating that question right now, as during its state of the game stream this week, Massive floated the idea of revising its community contact: “We are looking to diversify our streaming content and are asking you what you want to see during weeks when there’s no new The Division 2 content to show,” the studio says. Specifically, they’ve asked players for feedback on whether they want to see “quick recaps of what’s happening in the game via articles, short social videos, or short developer Q&A videos” or regular “recaps, followed by developer segments discussing things like production timelines, world building, and weapons creation.”

Gamers will recall that Ubisoft had a down quarter and characterized the 2019 sales of The Division 2 as disappointing, which no doubt has fans worried about the future of support for the title.

This most recent SOTG video, however, does indeed focus on recent and future updates to the game, including gear balancing, the new maintenance window, the raid leaderboard, and Kenly College fixes.
