For the latest entry in 2K's WWE series, Visual Concepts has taken over as the sole developer of WWE 2K20, having previously worked as a co-developer alongside Yuke's since 2014. In an effort to make WWE 2K20 its own, Visual Concepts has introduced a brand new control scheme to the series for the first time that changes things up pretty drastically compared to prior games.

Unfortunately, not all of the changes have been for the better with Sony being forced to offer refunds due to the "broken" state of WWE 2K20 at launch. Luckily, once players adapt to the new control scheme, WWE 2K20 has a surprising amount of content to unlock and complete. Here's a full look at the new control scheme in WWE 2K20!

The New Control Scheme

WWE 2K20 brings back the series Standard, Advanced, and Carrying control schemes with the biggest changes affecting reversals, finishers, and interactions with weapons and climbing. First off, Reversals have been moved to the Triangle/Y buttons for PS4 and Xbox One respectively, and Signature Moves/Finishers now requiring players to tap the Strike and Grapple buttons at the same time.

The next big change affects character interactions with Objects and Climbing being separated into different buttons entirely. In WWE 2K20, L1/LB is now solely used for interacting with objects and Climbing in and out of the ring or through the ropes has been moved over to R1/RB. The final big change comes in the form of Submissions as players no longer need to grab opponents in a Front Facelock. Instead, players will be able to walk up to the opponent and apply the hold using R2/RT and X/A.

Can You Change Them?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. At the time of writing, there is no in-game option to change any of the control schemes in WWE 2K20. Of course, in the age of game updates, hotfixes, and post-launch support roadmaps, there is certainly the possibility that 2K or Visual Concepts may patch in the ability to change the controls sometime in the near future depending on player feedback.

WWE 2K20 has had a less than ideal launch, being widely considered as the worst WWE 2K game in the series due to problems with online play, worse graphics, and animation than previous games, and a long list of bugs and glitches. It's unfortunate that on top of the current slate of issues, longtime fans that bought the game will have to learn a whole new control scheme with no way for them to change it back.
