Wastelanders update to Fallout 76 delayed to Q1 2020

Fallout 76

Bethesda has posted a new article on the Fallout 76 site to update the community on several forthcoming features. Most notably, the Wastelanders feature that brings humans into the Wasteland as NPCs. This has been one of the community’s most-requested features. Wastelanders was supposed to launch in fall 2019, however, it appears that players are going to have to wait a bit longer.

According to the post the team has been reevaluating its progress on Wastelanders and has determined that it “needs more time to be the best, most polished update it can be”. As a result, Wastelanders will not be released until Q1 2020. The first quarter means that the release will be deployed any time between January 1, 2020 and March 31, 2020.

Bethesda also revealed that private server work is complete and that the system will be released next week. This means that players can inhabit their own private game world. “Our goal for players who purchase this service is to offer something for everyone, not just those who want a private server.” Players will even be able to modify their private worlds in the future, though that is not part of next week’s update.

The team also spent a bit of time explaining recent additions to the Atomic Shop (real-world cash shop) that have caused some waves in the community. Originally, the cash shop was only going to feature cosmetic items, but Bethesda says that it had “heard from many of you who wanted items with some real utility” — something devs responded to by adding Repair Kits, Scrap Kits, the Collectron Station, and a working Refrigerator. Devs are always working to ensure that nothing upsets the game’s balance so that those who spend real money won’t have an advantage.

Lastly, there are other updates coming through the balance of 2019:

  • QoL improvements requested by the community
  • new events
  • the Legendary Player system
  • a public test server
  • PERK loadouts
