Betawatch: Superheroic character creation beta battles!

Clothed descending a staircase.

A fantastic fight to flummox and fascinate fans, true believers! It’s the showdown of character creator betas for superhero games, as Ship of Heroes prepares to sail its creator into beta testing on November 1st! City of Titans is also planning to deliver its creator beta to backers soon, so who wins in the war of the dueling character creation tests? The answer is players! Who doesn’t like making superhero costumes?

Other beta news also took place this week, but it’s much less thematically consistent so it gets to the bullet point section:

There were, of course, much bigger stories this week… but most of those didn’t involve betas. The list just below does involve betas, but there’s always the chance that one of those betas slipped into a new testing stage without us noticing. If that’s the case, please let us know in the comments so we can correct it.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
