Rockfish reiterates Everspace 2 will not be an Epic exclusive

Developer Rockfish Games has once again said that Everspace 2 will not be exclusive to the Epic Games Store.

In a Kickstarter update, the studio said that the game would be launching on Steam first.

This reiterates what CEO Michael Shade said in an interview earlier this year where he explained why the company considers Steam its most important storefront.

"We have noticed that since our last Kickstarter, things have changed quite a bit. Due to broken promises from indie devs all the way to triple-A publishers," Rockfish said in its update for its Kickstarter crowdfunding push, which started on Thursday, October 3rd.

"It is probably no exaggeration to say that trust in developers is at an all-time low, especially in regards to Epic Games Store exclusives of titles that were originally (co)funded on Kickstarter.

"Ironically, one of the main reasons why we are doing another Kickstarter is to double-down on our promise that Everspace 2 will launch on Steam first, no matter what."

Besides this, the developer has worked with Microsoft to bring the first Everspace to Xbox Game Pass.

The team continued: "We are excited that our studio debut title has recently been added to Xbox Game Pass along with other great indie games like Astroneer, Bridge Constructor Portal, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Thimbleweed Park."

Currently, the Kickstarter has raised £143,783 ($175,702) - the aim is to raise £400,000 ($488,800) by November 4th.

The team has said it is 27 per cent of the way to being fully funded, with 18 per cent of the required cash coming in within the first 24 hours.
