Betawatch: PlanetSide Arena hits early access to a resounding shrug

This is fine dot jpeg.

The early access for PlanetSide Arena has begun after the game showed off its weaponry. And the results? Players agree that it is definitely… present! You can load it on your computer. If you want, you could probably even play it. That is not exactly a good reaction for a new game in early access, no.

Other news? Sure, let’s go with other beta news.

  • The headstart access for Astellia Online has begun ahead of its launch on September 27th. Of course, this particular headstart is only for people who purchase the most expensive pack… and for those not suffering from any sort of launcher issue, which does not include me. (EDIT: That problem has since been resolved, hooray!)
  • Happy crowdfunding anniversary from Chronicles of Elyria! What’s the best way to celebrate that anniversary? More crowdfunding, it seems.
  • Closed beta for Cube World is actually happening on September 23rd. Really! It is! That’s an actual thing that’s happening. This game’s development has been a real rollercoaster ride.
  • Last but not least, the Ashes of Creation battle royale mode is being sent into early access on September 24th, now being billed as a prequel to the MMO instead of… whatever it was supposed to be before, we occasionally lost track. At one point it may have been a coffee shop AU.

Life is hilarious! The list below is not, however, simply recounting the games which are currently in testing. If you see something that is on the list which should be listed differently (or not at all), it is not meant as a hilarious joke but is instead an oversight which you may feel free to correct us on. We appreciate it.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
