Tired of WoW Classic already? Feeling ready to take off the training wheels from your MMO bike and pedal with the hardcore kiddies? Then consider jumping into the EverQuest server Project 1999, which is bringing out a new server in October for those wishing to revisit the glory days of early EQ.

“October marks the 10th year anniversary of Project 1999; March of this year also marked the 20th anniversary of EverQuest,” the Project 1999 team said. “The intent of our project was always to restore the original classic experience of EverQuest from launch through Velious, and our most recent patch was the last major milestone in that effort. It seems appropriate now that we relive through that timeline on a proper, fresh classic experience.”

The Green shard will be a PvE server set at the very release point of original EverQuest. Gradually over the course of 2020 and 2021, expansions and patches will roll out, finishing up with a planned server merge with the Blue server by 2023 or so. The team is monitoring interest in the Green server, saying that it is not ruling out additional servers if the population gets to be too great.

MMO players will remember that Project 1999 currently operates under a formal agreement with Daybreak, which recognized it as a “fan-based not-for-profit classic EverQuest emulation project” back in 2015.
