Anthem is added to the list of free games for EA Access subscribers

It continues to appear that a sword of Damocles with an EA logo emblazoned on it hangs over the head of Anthem. After a stumbling start off of the blocks and updates that apparently have not drummed up a huge level of interest, the looter shooter wearing a robot suit is effectively going free-to-play for those subscribed to EA Access and Origin Access.

The freebie edition of the game is the standard version, though members of the Premier version of Origin Access on PC will get the Legion of Dawn edition, which packs in some extra armor for the game’s four Javelin suits.

The decision to make Anthem free for EA Access members is just another hit to confidence in the game’s longevity and seems to fly in the face of reported assurances that the shooter remains supported by both EA and BioWare: Readers will recall that EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated in June that he expects the dev team to achieve “something special and something great,” while BioWare’s Casey Hudson has assured players that the team is working on updates and crucial improvements.

In spite of all the concern over Anthem’s health, our Not So Massively columnist found the Cataclysm update to be pretty good, and the game does certainly continue to crank out updates. We’ll all just have to keep our eyes peeled in the meantime.
