World of Warcraft: Classic is nerfing threat generation on Demoralizing Shout

SHOUT!

Demoralizing Shout has numerous effects in WoW Classic; it reduces the attack power of nearby enemies, gives you a nice shouting animation, and generates threat. But does it generate too much threat? Apparently it does, since the developers have confirmed that the effects of Demoralizing Shout and Demoralizing Roar are providing too much threat on multiple targets compared to the 1.12 reference client, prompting an upcoming hotfix. Of course, this being WoW Classic, this has also prompted a great deal of shouting (not particularly moralizing shouting) about whether or not this is behind the game’s AoE cleave meta.

For those unfamiliar with this particular development, there’s a strong tendency at this point to have players gather up large packs of things in dungeons and then AoE them down with classes and specs that offer strong AoE damage, such as Mages. Some players are claiming that this is a result of the Demoralizing Shout bug offering too much threat, while others claim that it’s part of the metagame from private servers, and still others are stating that this was a thing back in Vanilla but not nearly as well-known. Oh, and this change is also prompting debate about whether or not this bug was in Classic and thus should not be changed. So yeah, this one is fun.
