Open beta for new Steam Library kicks off next week

After years of promising an update to how Steam's Library works, Valve has revealed that it is going into open beta on September 17th.

Aside from the visual overhaul, the new Steam Library has a wealth of additional features and tweaks. Firstly, it has been designed to work with Valve's new Events system, which allows developers to have a closer relationship with their consumers. It's also partly to hep games with a longer tail generate additional attention.

Meanwhile, categories have been replaced with 'collections'.

We caught up with Valve's Alden Kroll, one of the designers on Steam, at Devcom this year to discuss the changes that the Bellevue-based PC giant is making to its storefront, as well as new initiatives like Steam Labs.

And speaking of that new initiative, Valve has rolled out the micro trailer concept to every game on Steam, as well as introducing a new search feature to the Steam Labs pool.
