PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was an admirable attempt by Sony to compete with Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. franchise, but it didn't quite take off the way SSB did. Even so, fans of the original game have kept their fingers crossed for a sequel, and while nothing has been announced officially, there is a very interesting rumor making the rounds online about a potential PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2.

Apparently, a Capcom USA employee posted confidential information on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 online. This was then picked up by 4chan and other message boards, and reported on by SegmentNext. The leak claims that Capcom is developing the game for Sony, and that it is expected to launch in 2020 as a PS5 launch title. It will then be ported to PC in 2021, but there are no plans for crossplay between the two versions of the game.

The leak also claims to reveal the roster for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2. So for those curious, here is the supposed roster claimed by the leak:

playstation all stars battle royale

  • Chun-Li (Street Fighter)
  • Cloud (Final Fantasy 7)
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Dante (Devil May Cry)
  • Delsin Rowe (inFamous)
  • Ellie (The Last of Us)
  • Helghast (Killzone)
  • Jak & Daxter
  • Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
  • Kat (Gravity Rush)

  • Ryu (Street Fighter)
  • Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet)
  • Sir Daniel Fortesque (MediEvil)
  • Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)

  • Spyro the Dragon

Now, the question is, can the leak be believed? Well, like with any leak, we recommend readers take this information with a massive grain of salt. However, the information is weirdly specific with mention of a PC port and the lack of crossplay between it and the supposed PS5 version. While the specifics certainly doesn't lend this "leak" anymore credibility, it does give fans a few more potential details to think over at the very least.

Something else compelling about this "leak" is the claim that Capcom is developing the game. Capcom has a lot of experience working with other companies' IP, having worked on the Marvel vs. Capcom games and some Legend of Zelda titles. If Sony was going to have any company work on a game like this, Capcom seems like the most logical choice.

However, this isn't the first time that we've heard PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 rumors, and nothing ever came of those. With that in mind, fans should wait for an official announcement by Sony or Capcom before they get too excited about any of this information.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 is rumored to be in development for the PS5.
