It's been announced during today's Nintendo Direct that Blizzard's Overwatch is coming to the Nintendo Switch next month.

For those that keep track of video game leaks, this may not come as a shock. The Switch port of Overwatch was leaked last week, so the announcement was expected during today's Nintendo Direct.

The Switch version of Overwatch will release on October 15, in the middle of an already busy season. This will be the Overwatch Legendary Edition, which features 15 extra skins, as well as 3 months of Nintendo Switch Online to get players into the game immediately.

Overwatch will be available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop or as a boxed version containing a download code for $39.99. Finally, those who pre-purchase the game before October 15 will get the extra Noire skin for Widowmaker, and those that log-in before the end of the year will get a free Golden Loot Box.

The version of Overwatch will include all the content from other versions of the title, and even allow for gyroscopic controls when the console is in Handheld mode. This is the first version of Overwatch that can truly played on the go, but players will need some sort of internet access to enjoy it, as there's no single-player content for the game.

With this release, Overwatch will now be available to play on every modern console. Blizzard's timing of the release of the Switch port makes sense, as well. Overwatch originally released three years, but a new port in the middle of the holiday season is sure to bring new and old blood back into the game. Also, with it costing $40 and coming with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, it's a good deal many parents are likely to jump on when looking for holiday gifts.

It's clear that Overwatch will suffer a bit graphically as a result of this port, but more likely than not those that would buy the Switch version wouldn't be bothered. It's clear this is for gamers that want to play Blizzard's shooter on the go. This probably isn't the version Overwatch pro players are going to flock to for competitive matches, at least.

Overwatch will be available on the Nintendo Switch on October 15. The game is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
