It's finally official. After weeks of knowing of its existence thanks to a leaked trailer, EA has come clean and announced Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, the next third-person shooter in the popular all-ages series. The announcement also came with one small extra piece of news: the game is out right now.

Though the game "officially" launches next month, everyone interested in some fresh cartoon action can get their hands on Battle for Neighborville today through its digital-exclusive Founder’s Edition. This early-access version grants players access to plenty of special content, including special rewards given for logging in every week throughout September.

Not everything in the new Plants vs. Zombies game is available now, but EA will be building towards it over the next six weeks with weekly content drops that will bring the Founder's Edition to the same state, in terms of content, as the Standard Edition coming in October. As for why it’s releasing the game early like this, EA, explained:

"Because our players are our most important critics and our biggest cheerleaders. You get us! You embrace our wacky weirdness and you love our games as much as we do. Because of that, we're committed to providing you and the PvZ community with the highest quality experience we can."

It should be pointed out that the Founder's Edition, along with its perks, will only be available to purchase until September 30. But as an added incentive to hop in early, EA is selling it for $29.99, a full $10 less than the Standard Edition. Since all of the content from the former will carry over into the latter, this is actually a pretty good deal for the fans.

Gameplay-wise, Battle for Neighborville continues off the formula established by the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare games, the most recent of which was met with favorable critical reviews. This time around, players can look forward to six online multiplayer modes, three new free-roaming areas full of quests to take on, 20 plant and zombie classes that they can customize to their heart's content, and split-screen co-op (on consoles).

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville's Founder's Edition is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Standard Edition of the game will be released on October 18.
