Even though CD Projekt RED wasn't able to make it to PAX West in Seattle this past weekend, fans were still able to get plenty of new Cyberpunk 2077 details. A planned streaming session showed off over 15 minutes of new gameplay including the Pacifica district and new enemy factions like the Voodoo Boys. Even though the stream also caused a bit of controversy over the cutscene perspective, nothing regarding the multiplayer was discussed. Earlier today, CD Projekt RED gave a little more insight into the multiplayer plans for its upcoming open world action game.

Without getting into too many details, CD Projekt RED confirmed that multiplayer is going to be coming to Cyberpunk 2077. However, whatever that will include, be it PvP or cooperative elements, it won't actually be ready for quite a while. On Twitter, the studio outlined its plans for the game, highlighting free DLC and single player content coming to the game after it launches in April. Once all of that is complete, the company will then look to deliver multiplayer content.

The company also revealed that the company is about to exit the research and development phase of multiplayer production. As the studio nears closer to its singe player version of Cyberpunk 2077 launch date, parts of the team are already starting to transition to active development. As part of that process, the studio is looking to hire multiple positions specifically for multiplayer including 3D character artist, game designer, network programmer, and more.

There's been a lot of debate on the multiplayer side of Cyberpunk 2077 over the past few months. The developer has tried to stay transparent with fans, revealing earlier this year that the studio plans to take its time with the online portions in order to make sure any multiplayer is done right. Just last month, senior concept artist Marthe Jonkers confirmed that online portions have taken a backseat and at the time, wasn't even willing to confirm that anything multiplayer was coming at all. At the very least, fans now know that while online components are coming, it's going to be a bit of a wait.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
