As players have seen, Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers that bring new activites and skins to the game, and fans surely have tons of ideas of what they'd like to see next. However, it's unlikely that Stephen King's It was on anyone's list. But it appears this bizarre crossover may actually be happening.

Players in Fortnite should be prepared to float if a recent findings are to be believed. While digging through the game's latest build, @FortTory stumbled upon a file containing a creepy balloon; an object synonymous with the devilish Pennywise. While the balloon in the image isn't the bright red color it is in the books and films, the object's name is "CreepyBalloon", which means it appears it's intended to, at the very least, be a reference of some sort.

Another dataminer, @Th3_Unkn0wns_ found another file that may be related. It is called "Illinois Laugh" and is a sound clip of some very disturbing laughs that sound quite familiar. The story in It takes place in Maine, so Illinois may be something to throw snoopers off, even though the audio actually reinforces the idea of a crossover.

A crossover with It isn't so odd when taking into account that Fortnite recently had a Stranger Things event. But, for all anyone knows, both of these files could just be part of future content meant to parody It... or it could mean that the most terrifying clown in literature is heading to Fortnite. It: Chapter 2 releases next week, September 6, so if a crossover is going to happen, all should be revealed soon. Best stay away from the sewers and drains, though; just in case.

Until details on this supposed It crossover are disclosed, players can participate in the current crossover with Borderlands, which kicked off today. With Borderlands 3 less than a month away, the time is ripe for a little cross promotion. This is being done with Fortnite X Mayhem, a limited-time event that introduces new activities, loot, and gear from the Borderlands universe. During the event, players can purchase a Psycho Bandit bundle, a series of cosmetic items themed after Borderlands, which includes the Psycho Bandit outfit/skin, ClapTrap pet, and the Psycho Buzz Axes pickaxe. There is also a challenge bundle available that provides a series of tasks for players to complete, like finding different vault symbols.

Additionally, there is a new rift zone called the Pandora Rift Zone. Crossing this rift will change the look of the game into the cel-shaded style of Borderlands. This will add one more rift to the growing list of Rift Zones in Fortnite, which are a big part of Season X.

Fortnite is available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
