Blade & Soul kicks off its summer celebration on August 21

whee summer is miserable

All right, someone has to ask this question: Why does Blade & Soul’s Hongsil Summer Blast involve collecting ice cubes? Why is that the token you get? Ice cubes are not difficult to obtain under normal circumstances with any sort of refrigeration, and if you don’t have any sort of refrigeration, then you aren’t really going to be collecting them because they will quickly turn into small puddles of water. That’s the only unrealistic part of the event. Everything else is fine.

Players can participate in the event via daily quests, clearing out Hongsil’s Secret Storehouse, or taking on the ice-elemental madness taking place over at the Frozen Carvinal. (It’s not supposed to be frozen, for the record.) Collecting ice cubes allows you to subsequently turn them in for fun rewards like cosmetic gear, materials, gems, and even experience. So go ahead and fight off some too-cold baddies, and try not to think about how the ice cubes you’re stockpiling shouldn’t be lasting nearly this long. Seriously, try putting an ice cube in your pocket and see how it goes. (Note: You probably already know how this will go; do not do this.)
