World of Warcraft Classic closed beta realms reopen

World of Warcraft Classic

Blizzard Entertainment is getting ready to…wait for it…wow the world with the launch of World of Warcraft Classic on August 26th. Over the course of the last several months, closed beta servers have been active, though they were closed several times for technical testing events. However, developers have now reopened CBT realms, though previously existing characters have been wiped.

The good news is that everyone who has had access to closed beta continues to have access. In addition, testers can create a level 40 “template” character and can play through level 45. “Characters in this range will find level-appropriate quests to explore in zones such as Stranglethorn Vale, Swamp of Sorrows, Dustwallow Marsh, and Desolace.”

Closed beta realms will be open through Friday, August 16th.

“Thanks to your help testing WoW Classic, we’ve fixed many additional reported bugs since the Beta ended last month. To really ensure that these fixes are all functioning as expected and prepare the smoothest possible launch in two weeks, we’ve just re-opened our closed beta realms for additional testing of WoW Classic.”

WoW Classic is an attempt by Blizzard to recreate the original “vanilla” experience, though with some modern conveniences and updates to the back end.
