The first part of Destiny 2 director Luke Smith's 20-page, multi-part "State of the Game" blog went live today, bringing with it several reveals about the past, present, and future of the game. At least two more parts are planned for this week, with the first part already revealing major changes coming to the Eververse Store, how the annual pass affected the team at Bungie, and how the Whisper of Worms microtransactions funded the Zero Hour mission development.

It's been a wild ride, to say the least, but there were a few other details that stood out. One of the biggest is a QOL update that has been a long-time coming, which separates bounties from quests in Destiny 2's UI. Not only does this clean up the player's menu some, but it makes it easier to sort through quests and bounties. Plus, Smith also revealed that PC players could assign a hotkey for the Pursuits menu.

While this detail may seem small in the grand scheme of things, it really paints a bright future for post-Activision Bungie. There were Destiny 2 fans who were understandably nervous when the split occurred, but it's shaping up to be a good thing, especially when it's allowing the team to have more agency and pursue smaller QOL details. Smith didn't slap an exact release date on when this update would go live, but he stated that it would be sometime this fall.

That would suggest it would come out sometime after the release of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, if not alongside the game's next expansion, which is already quite sizeable. According to the PS4 listing for Shadowkeep, the expansion is 68 GB, bringing the total file size for Destiny 2 up to 165 GB.

Shadowkeep is Bungie's first big venture without Activision, so it's understandable that the team wants to get everything looking, working, and feeling as best as it can. This may have played a role in the two-week delay in October that the Destiny 2 expansion received, but there's no doubt that the expansion is an ambitious project, with even more Shadowkeep details set to be revealed at Gamescom.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version currently in development.
