Pokemon GO just completed a special Team Rocket event, but the popular mobile game isn't slowing down. Niantic has now confirmed that the legendary Pokemon Rayquaza is finally returning to legendary raid battles, and this time players will have the chance to add a shiny Rayquaza to their collection.

Pokemon GO has featured the likes of Groudon and Kyogre recently, and in the lore of Pokemon, Rayquaza is meant to stop those two legendary Pokemon from fighting. As a result, Rayquaza will be available in legendary raid battles from July 31 at 1pm PDT to September 2 at 1pm PDT.

Niantic didn't note any additional bonuses that may come to Pokemon GO as part of Rayquaza's return to legendary raid battles. However, the studio did release a flashy new trailer for Pokemon GO to commemorate Rayquaza's return, showing off the legendary Pokemon's impressive shiny form in all its glory.

It's been an exciting time to be a Pokemon GO player. Not only did Pokemon GO just wrap up a special Team Rocket event, but it looks as though it may soon be adding some brand new Pokemon to the game. Niantic has confirmed that it is increasing the Pokemon storage limit in Pokemon GO to 2,500 Pokemon, and typically the Pokemon storage limit is increased around the same time that new Pokemon are added to the mix.

It seems a bit early for Pokemon GO to add Gen 5 Pokemon to the game, especially when there are still Generation 4 Pokemon we are waiting on. However, Niantic added the first Gen 4 Pokemon before it was finished adding all of the Gen 3 Pokemon, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that the first Gen 5 Pokemon will make their debut in the game later this year.

One possibility is that Gen 5 Pokemon will come to Pokemon GO during the game's annual Halloween event. Niantic has used Halloween events in the past to begin introducing a new Pokemon generation, so there is some precedence for that. But while Pokemon GO players patiently wait for more Pokemon to come to the popular augmented reality mobile game, they can pass the time by facing off against Rayquaza in legendary raids and trying to add a shiny one to their collection.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
