Nintendo has announced a new version of the Nintendo Switch, with better battery life. The new version of the popular home console can be played on the go for around four and a half to nine hours, a huge leap from the estimated two and a half to six hours of battery life that the first version of the Nintendo Switch got.

In its announcement, Nintendo said that players would be able to get around five and a half hours of gameplay from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from the new Nintendo Switch. This is a jump of around two and a half hours compared to the estimated three hours that the console was getting. The open-world fantasy RPG is the only game that Nintendo has officially provided play time data for, for the new Nintendo Switch. However, by using battery life data collected by handheld gaming site Reviews 2 Go, some educated guesses can be made.

On the first version of the Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Odyssey could be played for around three hours and 18 minutes with low screen brightness and in airplane mode before the console would need to be charged. This is like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and so Super Mario Odyssey would likely get five and a half hours from the new Nintendo Switch too. Splatoon 2 was able to get three hours and 37 minutes, but this will probably grow to six hours on the new console.

Racing game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can last a bit longer. It could get an estimated four hours and 18 minutes from the first Nintendo Switch, but it could potentially get six and a half to seven hours on the new version of the console. Stardew Valley, a game which could get six hours and 34 minutes from the first Nintendo Switch could get as much as nine hours, if not more, on the new console when the brightness is turned down and airplane mode is switched on. Airplane mode would mean that players wouldn't be able to enjoy Stardew Valley multiplayer, though.

These new battery life estimations aren't official and it is possible that Nintendo is still working with its developers and third-parties to make games more optimized for the new console. However, for Nintendo Switch fans who want to take their console everywhere with them, they'll likely be able to get a good few hours out of some of the Switch's biggest games.
