Borderlands 3 won't have cross-platform play at launch

Developer Gearbox Software has said that cross-platform play won't be in Borderlands 3 when it launches later this year.

Studio boss Randy Pitchford revealed the information on Twitter (below), responding to rumours that the topic would the subject of an upcoming announcement which was to take place yesterday.

Pitchford has said that cross-play would be coming after launch and that the studio is "committed" to it, but it is waiting on its platform partners to make it possible.

Borderlands 3 was properly shown off in May 2019, but the reveal event was mired by both confused messaging around microtransactions in addition to Pitchford's battles with the media.
