Last September, Sony announced the PlayStation Classic, a scaled-down version of the original PlayStation console that comes with 20 preloaded games for fans to enjoy. Since its release, the price of the PS Classic has been reduced considerably, and a new sale looks to discount Sony's mini console even further.

More specifically, players can now order the PlayStation Classic for $24.99 from Best Buy. This electronics retailer typically offers the console for $59.99, making this a $35 savings and the lowest price that has been seen on the PS Classic to date. Notably, the PlayStation Classic announcement set MSRP for the console at $99.99, which means that, less than a year after its release, players can pick up the Classic for a quarter of its initial cost.

With respect to what comes with the PS Classic, those that order it can expect to receive two classic-style controllers as well as HDMI and USB cables. However, what is likely to be of the most interest to those considering adding the console to their collections is the 20 preloaded PlayStation Classic games. They are as follows:

  • Battle Arena Toshinden
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby
  • Final Fantasy 7
  • Grand Theft Auto
  • Intelligent Qube
  • Jumping Flash!
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Mr. Driller
  • Rayman
  • Resident Evil Director’s Cut
  • Revelations: Persona
  • R4 Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
  • Syphon Filter
  • Tekken 3
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
  • Twisted Metal
  • Wild Arms

While some have found the games lineup for the PlayStation Classic to be a bit lacking, there are definitely a number of titles included that will be exciting to certain players that are interested in retro gaming. Indeed, games like Final Fantasy 7Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil all hold special places in video game history, and this new discount means that there has never been a better time to play these titles on the PS Classic.

Certainly, the PlayStation Classic has not found the level of success that the NES and SNES Classics did when they released in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Without question, those consoles were highly sought-after upon their launch, and extreme demand led to things like the NES Classic being listed on eBay for $1,000. It is a bit unfortunate that Sony has not been able to follow suit and deliver a retro console that has the same appeal as Nintendo's, but at least it can now be brought home at quite a significant discount.

PlayStation Classic is available now.
