Developer Bungie said earlier this week that it is looking into nerfing Lord of Wolves, an exotic shotgun that is currently running rampant in PvP, especially on PC. In a stream today, Destiny 2 director Luke Smith answered fan questions about the weapon, saying that Lord of Wolves will be nerfed "shortly."

Smith said Bungie knows that the weapon is out of control, but instead of going the route of turning off the weapon in Destiny 2, Smith said the developer is going to let it go for now, but that it will not be long before the weapon gets rebalanced.

This strategy with Lord of Wolves is similar to how Bungie treated the issue last year with the Prometheus Lens exotic, which at the time was also completely broken, resulting in an incredibly fast time to kill in the Crucible and Trials of the Nine. But, in addition to just letting Lord of Wolves go un-nerfed for now, Smith said that anyone who plays in Iron Banner this week will receive a special Triumph and emblem to commemorate Lord of Wolves ruling the Crucible and the Iron Banner event.

That Triumph and emblem will be added in the same update as the nerf to Lord of Wolves, although Smith did not give the date of that patch. Despite not having an exact timeframe as to when Lord of Wolves will be nerfed, Smith said it would be soon and talked about this being the "week that Lord of Wolves was totally nuts," so that patch will likely be coming out in days or weeks from now, not months.

While many players are, no doubt, getting annoyed with Lord of Wolves in Iron Banner this week, especially while trying to finish the new Iron Banner quest that awards the event's armor set, it does seem that Bungie is trying to make a gesture of appreciation toward fans by creating this special "I remember when" Triumph, as Smith described it.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version in active development.
