Former Epic production director Fergusson says he tried to cancel Fortnite

The studio head at Gears of War maker The Coalition Rod Fergusson has said that back when he was a production director at Epic Games he tried to cancel Fortnite.

Speaking to Game Informer - via PC Gamer - the exec said that he felt the concept didn't meet his expectations where quality was concerned.

Fergusson said that he doesn't lose sleep over the decision and that he's happy for the success that Epic has had with the title.

"If I stayed at Epic, I would have cancelled Fortnite," Fergusson told Game Informer.

"Before I left, I tried to cancel Fortnite. When it was Save the World... that was a project that had some challenges.

"And as the director of production at the time, that game would not have passed my bar for something we should continue to keep going...

"So when people look at me and say 'don't you feel bad [that he left before Fortnite's stratospheric success]?' I say no, you should feel really good, because that game you love - that worldwide sensation - would not exist had I stayed at Epic."
