Eagle-eyed Borderlands 2 players discovered yet another Easter egg hidden within the game's new free DLC, which was released during E3 2019. In Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary, players with an eye for detail might spot a small yellow box. This box, a box of Torgue-branded frozen waffles, won't stand out as particularly notable — unless you happen to be a Stranger Things fan, that is. Gearbox managed to sneak a Stranger Things Easter egg into Borderlands 2.

The waffle box alone may have been enough of a clue for Stranger Things fans to call it an Easter egg, but Gearbox decided to make certain the message was clear. Along the side of the box is hastily written, "Property of 11." The reference being to Stranger Things telepath Eleven, whose favorite food, after spending years in a government testing facility, was discovered to be frozen waffles. Eggo-branded frozen waffles are her specific favorites.

For Borderlands 2 players who want to hunt down the Stranger Things Easter egg for themselves, you'll need to progress far enough through the DLC's missions that you have access to the Paradise lab. Also known as the lab of a certain character you have to kill whose name might be a bit too much of a spoiler. The Easter egg is found in one of the jail cells on the upper floor of the lab. The box is on the floor in front of some green and black organic looking wall.

There's nothing special earned from finding the Easter egg, short of the satisfaction of being both a huge Borderlands 2 and Stranger Things nerd. Really though, isn't that reward enough?

Gearbox has clearly put together something special in Borderlands 2's Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary DLC. Going back to a game that's now almost seven years old and adding a full DLC story rich with interesting detail is such a fun, clever, and caring thing to do. It's both something very cool for fans of the franchise and makes the upcoming release of Borderlands 3 all the more exciting and interesting. Hopefully, there's something for Stranger Things fans to discover in Borderlands 3, too.

Borderlands 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One via Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
