Two months ago, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy 7 - A Symphonic Reunion, the "first ever official concert dedicated to Final Fantasy 7," which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles just last night. While the Final Fantasy concert sent many fans home happy with a new trailer and the reveal of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date, others have voiced frustration about a perceived lack of live music at the event.

Taking to various social media outlets, both during and after Final Fantasy 7 - A Symphonic Reunion, fans in attendance indicated that a significant portion of the show was focused on the original prerecorded "MIDI" tracks that can be heard when playing the PC version of the game. It is said that these prerecorded Final Fantasy 7 compositions were played, through speakers, while the orchestra sat silently and footage from the series was presented on large video screens.

Indeed, some in attendance are stating that a majority of their time at the Final Fantasy 7 concert was spent listening to playback of the classic JRPG's synthesized soundtrack. With ticket prices for Final Fantasy 7 - A Symphonic Reunion starting at $77.77, some fans are certainly suggesting that such a heavy emphasis on prerecorded audio was not what they were expecting when they purchased tickets.

That said, attendees do indicate that, when the orchestra was performing, the Final Fantasy 7 symphonic arrangements were done quite nicely. This intimation is even coming from some of the attendees that are taking issue with the prerecorded music that was used at the Final Fantasy 7 concert, emphasizing that the problem for these fans primarily centers around the amount of prerecorded music that was used, not the quality of the live performances.

Ultimately, it seems as though fans' expectations for the Final Fantasy 7 concert are the real culprit for the criticisms surrounding the event, with those that believed that they would hear predominately live music at Final Fantasy 7 - A Symphonic Reunion walking away dissatisfied. Certainly, fans also have varying expectations for what will be shown during the Square Enix E3 2019 press conference, and time will tell if the company can avoid further disappointment with tonight's Final Fantasy 7 Remake reveals.

Final Fantasy - A Symphonic Reunion took place on June 9, 2019 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
