While some like to poke fun at the fact that the game has been released on basically every video game platform imaginable, there is no denying that The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is a landmark game that is still enjoyed by many gamers to this day. Skyrim has remained one of the industry's top games even eight years after its release, and Bethesda's Todd Howard wants similar longevity from The Elder Scrolls 6 when it eventually releases.

Speaking to IGN, Howard discussed how Skyrim is "infinitely playable" thanks to things like mod support. "What that does is let us know going into Elder Scrolls 6, this is a game we need to design for people to play for a decade at least. At least."

Howard's comments are a strong indication that The Elder Scrolls 6 will not only have mod support like all other Bethesda games, but that it will also have its own content for replayability as well. Skyrim actually has infinite quests that players can play, meaning that it never truly "ends." It seems like a safe bet that a similar feature will be in The Elder Scrolls 6, though the game is so early in development that it's impossible to say for sure.

Meanwhile, Howard's comment about designing The Elder Scrolls 6 to be playable for a decade may be a hint as to when we can expect the game. Last we heard, Bethesda was working on Starfield as its main priority, but some analysts believe that the company may shift its focus to The Elder Scrolls 6 development instead. The logic behind this is that Bethesda burned a lot of its hardcore fans with the rough launch of Fallout 76, and it wants to use The Elder Scrolls 6 to win them back.

If so, perhaps Howard's comment could be an indication that The Elder Scrolls 6 is aiming for a 2021 release. After all, we've heard rumblings in the past that the Elder Scrolls 6 release date would be in 2021, and that would mark 10 years since Skyrim's launch.

Of course, all of this depends on how far in development The Elder Scrolls 6 is, which is hard to say at the moment. However, it's hard to believe that the game won't be available within the next few years or so.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development for unspecified platforms.
