Ever since developer BioWare began talking about how luck works in Anthem, players were left with more and more questions. How did luck influence loot drops? Did it make loot more plentiful or did it improve the quality of the loot that did drop? These and more were some of the questions that Anthem players would continuously ask the BioWare devs, but finally those can come to an end. Anthem is removing the Luck stat from the game.

In this week’s Anthem livestream, BioWare gave players their first look at the upcoming Cataclysm event. The developers wanted to retain as much of the mystery surrounding Cataclysm as possible while still showing players what to expect. As well, the devs gave livestream viewers some details on changes coming to Anthem in a future update, starting with the removal of luck.

Once the update goes live, Anthem players will see the Luck stat on any gear or weapons turned into an Armor stat. It’s unclear if the Luck percentage will influence the amount of armor that players receive, but it’s arguably the best option. So many of Anthem’s stats are hit or miss, but few can pass up a little extra damage protection.

Although the Luck stat will no longer roll on gear, it is not completely going away. At the same time, BioWare removes Luck stats from gear, it will also raise player’s underlying Luck to the maximum. So instead of one player having better odds of getting masterwork or legendary gear, all players will be at the same level.

At the very least, it’s nice to see BioWare acknowledges its faults with the Luck stat and finally remove it from the game. Luck has been a major source of frustration for those grinding gear and trying to focus on drops while losing damage or armor was never ideal.

Nevertheless, even though Luck is gone, many Anthem players would argue that loot still has a long way to go in the game. Perhaps with everyone at max Luck post-update things will be different, but we will have to wait and see.

Anthem is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
