RIFT just launched a mount datamined back in 2018 – and it’s in a lockbox

RIFT players’ eyebrows are sky-high at the moment thanks to the addition of a new random mount in the Regulos Brooding Supply Crate lockbox launched yesterday after being teased last week. It’s the first new lockbox in the game since 2017. The mount was first datamined by The Ghar Station back in February of 2018, if that gives you any idea how long these assets have been sitting around waiting for an entry into the game.

It’s fair to say RIFT has seen tumultuous times over the ensuing year and a half, of course; following the introduction of RIFT Prime progression server last year, Trion Worlds folded entirely, its assets and MMOs snapped up by Gamigo. But Gamigo then reduced RIFT’s dev team, canceled RIFT Prime, and added a separate paid battle pass on top of the game’s existing optional subscription. In spite of hints about “future content releases,” there hasn’t been any new non-seasonal or non-Prime core content since the Bastion of Steel raid added in 2017, and even prior paid mounts were buyable directly in the cash shop, not part of random lockboxes.

There’s a little bit of good news this month, however; while Gamigo had originally noted it was aiming to merge RIFT’s servers and effectively terminate the game’s PvP server, a week later the studio changed its mind, telling players it would be keeping the Bloodiron PvP server and changing up which EU shards would be merged.

Players of Gamigo’s games may also be interested to know that the studio announced new hires this week, specifically a pair of marketing folks from My.com and Mail.ru, who’ll be heading up marketing, PR, and community management for the company.
