Sega first announced Team Sonic Racing at E3 2018 with a trailer that showed off the game's co-op focus, vehicle customization, and more, but stopped short of revealing all of the characters. Now that the especially fast-paced racing game is on the market, we know every character that's available to play as in Team Sonic Racing.

Team Sonic Racing has 15 playable characters at launch. This is less than Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which featured over 20 characters, including non-Sonic Sega characters. While some fans may miss the non-Sonic characters in Team Sonic Racing, it still features most of the biggest characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise itself.

Here is a list of all the Team Sonic Racing characters:

  • Amy
  • Big the Cat
  • Blaze
  • Chao
  • E-123 Omega
  • Eggman
  • Knuckles
  • Metal Sonic
  • Rouge
  • Shadow
  • Silver
  • Sonic
  • Tails
  • Vector
  • Zavok
team sonic racing characters list

The gimmick of Team Sonic Racing is that players have to work cooperatively with their teammates to win races. This means that characters are categorized into three different classes, with each class represented on each team. Character types include Speed (fastest characters), Technique (immune to hazards for limited time), and Power (can break through obstacles and use more powerful Wisps).

With that in mind, here are the characters categorized by team and type.

Team Sonic

  • Sonic (Speed)
  • Tails (Technique)
  • Knuckles (Power)

Team Dark

  • Shadow (Speed)
  • Rouge (Technique)
  • E-123 Omega (Power)

Team Amy

  • Amy (Speed)
  • Chao (Technique)
  • Big the Cat (Power)

Team Vector

  • Blaze (Speed)
  • Silver (Technique)
  • Vector (Power)

Team Eggman

  • Metal Sonic (Speed)
  • Eggman (Technique)
  • Zavok (Power)

As illustrated by the lineup of playable characters in Team Sonic Racing, many major characters from the franchise are represented. However, there are also some missing characters that fans may be sad to see aren't in the lineup of playable racers. However, it's possible Sega may release DLC for Team Sonic Racing one day to fill out the roster, but for now, players will just have to master the 15 characters already available to them.

Team Sonic Racing is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
