Betawatch: World of Warcraft Classic’s beta testing has officially begun again

One last round.

If you tested World of Warcraft back before it launched, this week’s surprise launch of the World of Warcraft: Classic beta test might spark uses of that Jumanji “what year is it” meme. Yes, it’s in testing now, you can play the game’s classic offering, and our first impressions say that the classic version is… what it says it is on the tin. Moving on to list format!

  • Project C wants testers! It doesn’t want to give you its actual title, though, nor does it want to make it easy for you to get in and test it. It’s like a mystery wrapped in an enigma bundled in a burrito.
  • The Cycle is going for an extended playtest session this weekend if you want to test the heck out of it. Stock up on burritos ahead of time.
  • Registrations are now open for the closed beta of Ascent: Infinite Realm in South Korea. Those of us on western shores have to wait a little longer to snuggle in the warm comfort of steampunk airships like sleeping inside a burrito.
  • The much-delayed Ubisoft pirate game Skull and Bones has delayed its release to next year at the absolute earliest. Press F to pay respects by dropping a nice burrito into the nearest waste receptacle.
  • Last but not least, Nexon unveiled a new multiplayer shooter, Rocket Arena, with its beta scheduled for May 23rd. If only it were more about shooting burritos. Although that’s just a name, maybe burritos play a large role in the game elsewhere.

As you can tell, this is why we rarely write this column ahead of lunch, because we wind up thinking about burritos. Even when we don’t actually want burritos. Burrito your way on down to the comments below if you want to burrito up more beta news, and let us know if something switched test phases without us catching it in the comment. Then, order a warm, spicy burrito.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
