This week, developer Massive Entertainment launched its first raid for Division 2 titled Operation Dark Hours. As promised, the 8-player endgame activity is one of the most difficult experiences that Massive has delivered, but it may also be a little too difficult for some. As of this writing, no team has beaten the Dark Hours raid on either PS4 or Xbox One.

No question some team (or teams) will inevitably complete The Division 2’s raid but the fact that PC teams are now making their way through the raid a second (or more) time, there is concerns about the disparity between the platforms. As of yet, players can’t pin down what makes the raid so much harder on console, but the leading culprit is the 30 FPS frame rate that can fluctuate in certain encounters.

For example, during the first Operation Dark Hours raid encounter, the Boomer boss fight, players have a very tight window to shoot the glowing weak point on Boomer’s chest. If they don’t shoot the weak point then Boomer can replenish a good portion of armor, essentially undoing any progress that the team has made. On PC, there don’t seem to be problems hitting the spot, but on console, the window apparently seems smaller and it doesn’t account for the less precise aim of a controller.

Designing an endgame encounter to be tough is one thing, but making it so that console players struggle to even make progress is a problem. The Xbox Mixer team tried to attempt a raid run live, and needless to say, it did not go well.

Currently, developer Massive Entertainment has yet to comment on the lack of console raid completions but they likely are waiting until the weekend is over. Plenty of Division 2 players have day jobs and are potentially waiting until the weekend to get their raid run in. However, the raid looks pretty tough even for hardcore players, so those with day jobs may need more time to optimize their Division 2 builds.

There are plenty of ways that Massive could approach this issue, but we don’t know if it’s for sure an issue just yet. Still, with tons of PC teams making it through and no console teams being able to beat it, there is likely a raid change on the way.

The Division 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
