Diablo III adds new Torment levels, introduces season 17 buff in latest patch

The latest update for Diablo III is live on PC and consoles, and it’s full of terrible torment and bovine bedlam, among other things. This patch sees the introduction of Torment 14, 15, and 16, the reward and difficulty levels of which “closely match Greater Rift 65, 70, and 75 respectively.” Moreover, players may now find that the portals left behind by defeated Treasure Goblins “may occasionally lead somewhere udderly ridiculous.” We’re sure you know what that means, but if you don’t, well, we wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise for you — go find out for yourself. Challenge Rifts have also received a small tweak, increasing the amount of Death’s Breath rewarded for completing them.

In addition, the buff for season 17, Season of Nightmares, has been added to the game, and like the Season of Grandeur before it, which provided all players with the secondary effect of the Ring of Royal Grandeur, it takes a powerful buff usually found only on a specific item and makes it global. In this case, the buff in question is the Legacy of Nightmares set power, granting all players a 750% increase to damage dealt and a 4% decrease to damage taken for every Ancient item they have equipped while having no set bonuses active.

According to a dev comment in the patch notes, the Season of Grandeur was “by far [the] most popular Themed Season yet,” and there was strong community outcry for the Legacy of Nightmares bonus to be the focal point of the next season, so hopefully players will take advantage of it and come up with all sorts of new, completely broken builds as the season progresses. On top of all that, the patch also includes a slew of item adjustments, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes, the full details of which you can find in the full patch notes on the game’s official site.
