If you have a 13-inch MacBook Pro that was made between October of 2016 and October of 2017 then you might be eligible for a free battery replacement.

Apple has determined that component may fail in some of the laptops that will cause the battery to expand. It’s not a safety issue, but it is an issue that can result in some issues with your device.

If you own a laptop that you think might qualify, Apple has a dedicated page where you can enter your computer’s serial number to check.

You can find your MacBook’s serial number on the underside of the computer in small print beside the regulatory markings. It’s also on your computer’s original packaging next to the barcode label.

If it does qualify, Apple will replace the battery free of charge at an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also ship your computer to an Apple Repair Center to get the problem taken care of.

Even if you’re not having issues now, if your computer is eligible for the swap it’s worth taking it in and having it done just in case. You’re going to end up having to spend a few days without your MacBook to make it happen, but it will be well worth it to not run into unexpected issues down the line.

And if you’ve already paid for a battery replacement on your computer and you’re eligible for a free replacement you can also contact Apple now and score a refund for that repair.
