EA Expands Subscription Service To PlayStation 4

Sony and Electronic Arts have announced that EA Access, the game subscription service that allows players access to various EA sports and action games, will finally be coming to PlayStation 4 starting in July. The service has been available on Xbox One and PC since its inception in 2014, but is now on the PlayStation 4 for the first time.

Sony had denied the service before, theorized to compete with their own PlayStation Plus offerings, and made a public statement that they did not believe it to be a good value for their customers. Now, EA and Sony seem to have reached an agreement on the value as the service will be coming to the PlayStation 4 for $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year.

The service lets players access EA games before they're released in 10-hour limited trials, as it did with Anthem earlier this year, which was playable on every platform except PlayStation 4. The growing narrative about the PS4 not getting big games like that on time was likely a pressure point for Sony, which helped grease the wheels of getting the service.
