Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's battle royale mode, Danger Zone, may not have exploded in popularity like others in the genre. That hasn't stopped Valve from continuing to support the battle royale via updates and new content, however. Today, Valve released Danger Zone's first post-launch map, Sirocco. Alongside the new map Valve also added new features, in Starting Perks and reviving, as well as new items, upgrades, and gameplay changes.

Sirocco is the heart of Danger Zone's new update. Danger Zone's launch map in Counter-Strike, Blacksite, will be temporarily unavailable via official matchmaking while players try out a window of Sirocco exclusivity. The new map is said to offer a mix of wide open spaces that are perfect for sniping, kasbahs for building-to-building gunfights, and underground passages for corridor gunfights and close combat.

With Sirocco, Valve is also introducing two big new features. The larger of the two is the ability to respawn after falling in battle. Players will be able to respawn anywhere on the map just as long as their squad continues to survive. The second is an all-new "Starting Perks" system that provides players with an item to start the match with. The perks include a taser, health shot, or the all-new exo-jump boots.

Two new items can also be found within the Counter-Strike map in Danger Zone, though two other items and two upgrades have been teased for release in the near future. One item is the previously mentioned exo-jump boots which let the player jump higher and run faster, with the other being bump mines, which are jump pads (that may launch players a bit too high). Future additions include a ballistic shield, remote-control drone, bomb wave money bonus, and exploration money bonus.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players can load up Danger Zone and experience Sirocco and all of the new content for themselves. Valve released the new map and update completely by surprise under the guise of a bug fix for the standard Counter-Strike mode. What other surprises Valve may have in store for Danger Zone fans remain unknown, but it's clear Valve intends to continue supporting the mode going forward.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and the Danger Zone battle royale mode are available now on PC.
