The Avengers is returning to Fortnite's battle royale in connection with the upcoming Marvel release of Avengers: Endgame. Monday morning Epic Games released its first teaser for the Avengers crossover event on Twitter, which features the Ramirez default character wielding Captain America's shield. Included in the post is the potential announcement or start date of April 25 and the hashtag #FortniteXAvengers.

Since this is the first official teaser for Fortnite's upcoming Avengers event, little to nothing is known about the event itself. However, the inclusion of Captain America's shield and a hint from Epic creative director Donald Mustard telling Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr. "See you soon!" implies a broad scope. This time around the full Avengers team could be making an appearance.

Should Fortnite's upcoming Avengers event pull in the full team, the next question worth asking is whether or not it's an actual mode as opposed to just cosmetics. The Fortnite X NFL event was similarly advertised and focused mainly on skins, but did have a brief LTM as well. The Avengers teaser hints at a Captain America skin at the very least, though there's also the opportunity to make Cap's shield into a cool gameplay element.

Finally, the last point of the teaser that's unclear is the April 25 date. Odds are that this will be the start date of the event, since it coincides with the opening of the Avengers: Endgame film, but it's possible that the event will simply be unveiled and then saved for later. If April 25 is actually the launch date for the event, expect a lot more teasers between today and Thursday.

It's wild to think about, but it hasn't even been a year since the first Fortnite and Avengers mashup. The Infinity Gauntlet mode, in which players could become the Avengers: Infinity War villain Thanos and wield his all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet, was one of Fortnite's most popular and successful LTMs.

Given that the original Fortnite and Avengers crossover was put together in a matter of weeks, it'll be interesting to see what the two companies' latest partnership will have led to. Even just a handful of Avengers-themed skins would be wildly popular in Fortnite, though given the amount of pre-sale tickets already sold for Avengers: Endgame, maybe it's the movie's popularity that will help boost the battle royale game.

Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
