Ahead of PC Connects Seattle 2019 on May 13th and 14th, we are catching up with some of the big names that we have on-stage at the show.

Today, Valve and Bossa Studios vet Chet Faliszek shares his thoughts on the state of the market and tells us a bit about his brand new game studio Stray Bombay Company. 

Tell us a bit about the company.

We are a new studio in Seattle that is focusing on cooperative games.

What does your role entail?

I am the co-founder along with Kimberly Voll and both our roles entail hiring the right people so we can collectively create a great co-op game.

Why did you want to work in the games industry?

I've always loved games. There is something about actually participating in the story instead of just watching it makes me feel more connected and wanting to know more.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to get into it?

I don't care what role you are interested in - we all end up being a little bit designers and a little bit storytellers. Don't just play games, but think of why you like or don't like what you are playing. Watch videos on making them, check out design videos, post-mortems, read books. There is so much out there that will help you inform your ideas and then test them - Unity and Unreal are free - jump in and start making something and experimenting.

What are your thoughts on the industry in the last 12 months?

It is a great time as we are entering a period of disruption and change, from online stores, to subscription models, to instantly on games, the industry is changing.

What major trends do you predict in the next 12 months?

More disruption, that will mean some bad news in big companies that have been looking towards traditional publishing models and good news for those looking to embrace the change. The breadth of content has grown. So many little niches serving smaller player bases have explodes so more people can find games they can relate to.

Which part of the Connects event are you most looking forward to and why?

The speaker dinner. You said it was some place nice, is it? Where are we going?
