The ability to acquire Destiny 2's pinnacle weapons for this Season 6 has been temporarily disabled after players found an exploit in the game's newest update. After Update 2.2.1 went live on Tuesday, April 9th, it did not take long for players to discover a new path to the highly sought-after Enhancement Cores. Almost as quickly, developer Bungie turned off the pinnacle weapons at their respective vendors to keep players from amassing Enhancement Cores, which have been tightly controlled to add value to the game's Infusion system.

The exploit of getting tons of Enhancement Cores was not a new one. All players had to do after Update 2.2.1 was to go to a vendor who has a pinnacle weapon that they have unlocked and claim the weapon multiple times. Dismantling a pinnacle weapon yields seven Enhancement Cores, so players were able to quickly fill up their spare inventory with nine copies of the same pinnacle weapon and then dismantle them within seconds to get 63 Enhancement Cores. Players could rinse and repeat the process for hundreds of Enhancement Cores.

In response, Bungie locked out players from being able to pick up Destiny 2's Season 6 pinnacle weapons—The Recluse, Oxygen SR3, and 21% Delirium—from their vendors. Players can still make quest progress toward any of those weapons they have not earned, but they will not be able to actually claim that weapon until the exploit is fixed and Bungie has unlocked the weapons again. Similarly, Bungie did not lock the weapons completely across the game, so any player with these weapons in their inventory can still use them.

This debacle just happens to be another chapter in the contentious story of Enhancement Cores in Destiny 2, which are a rare item required for infusing gear to higher power levels. Many players are calling for Enhancement Cores to be removed from the game completely, while Bungie has said it hopes to keep them rare to make Infusion a more meaningful choice and keep players from infusing every item they have to a higher level.

While Bungie has plans to add a new path to Enhancement Cores next season, fans are still not happy. So surely many players jumped at the chance to take advantage of the exploit while they could.

There is no estimated date as to when a fix will be coming for this exploit in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
