CD Projekt RED's sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, is a big, ambitious game that's larger than anything the studio has worked on before. More than 400 developers are working on the hotly anticipated game. However, despite the resources needed to create a game of this size, it seems as if CD Projekt RED has been able to work on another, secret project.

The developer made the confirmation while responding to a fan on its forums. A post by CD Projekt RED community moderator Donata Poplawska (translated from Polish with Google Translate) stated that the studio plans to release a "second AAA game" before 2021.

While this may ring alarm bells for Cyberpunk 2077 fans who fear that the developer may be sacrificing the quality of the sci-fi RPG to work on this other game, they don't need to worry. Poplawska also clarified that the team is "currently focusing on the production and promotion of Cyberpunk," and for that reason, CD Projekt RED isn't quite ready to comment on this secret, unannounced game just yet.

Poplawska's comments have led to a lot of speculation. For one, the forum post confirms that the Cyberpunk 2077 release date is sometime in the next two years, likely in the next year if CD Projekt RED is to properly promote this other game. The studio had appeared to tease a release date announcement at E3 2019 for Cyberpunk 2077, and this seems to support that theory.

It has also led to speculation about what this other game may offer. CD Projekt RED is known for is grand, engrossing RPG experiences and it had already confirmed that this second AAA game will be an RPG, too.

One reason why The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sold millions of copies is due to the developer's approach to detail and the size and scale of its world. Cyberpunk 2077 will build on this, offering tons of gameplay activities, improved NPC reactions, and a much larger world size. With a fantasy RPG series and a sci-fi RPG series to its name, fans will be eager to see what other kinds of RPGs CD Projekt RED can create.

Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2077 won't just offer incremental improvements compared to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It also marks the shift from a third-person perspective to a first-person view, and players can create their character, whereas The Witcher 3 has a fixed protagonist. Whether this other AAA RPG is yet another fresh foray into different gameplay features remains to be seen, but fans will be excited to find out.

Cyberpunk 2077 and CD Projekt RED's secret, unannounced game have yet to receive concrete release dates.
