Ever since the launch of Destiny 2's Forsaken expansion when Masterwork Cores became an item required for the game's Infusion mechanic, players have leveled complaints about the item's scarcity and how it limits their ability to level their favorite gear. On the other hand, developer Bungie made Masterwork Cores a part of Infusion to make the decision to level up gear more meaningful, considering the fact that in Year 1 players could continue to Infuse gear constantly at very little detriment to their materials.

In its weekly blog post, Bungie said next season will bring changes to Enhancement Cores. The developer explained that the goal of the Infusion system "to create an impactful feeling of progression" which is driven by a material that is by its very nature more rare in the game. But Bungie admits that if players are having a negative experience with the system, the developer will "work to improve it." Masterwork Cores have gone through changes since they were first introduced, including being renamed Enhancement Cores to better define what they are used for after the Masterwork system changed in Year 2.

In Season 7, the Season of Opulence, Enhancement Cores will undergo another change with Destiny 2 offering more opportunities for players to get their hands on the sought-after item. First off, starting in Season 7 the Gunsmith will offer daily and weekly bounties in exchange for Gunsmith materials with each bounty guaranteed to drop an Enhancement Core, among additional rewards.

As part of that addition, Destiny 2 will be removing Scrapper Bounties (which drop randomly when dismantling gear), which Bungie said were never a reliable source of materials. Any existing Scrapper Bounties in players' inventory at the turnover from Season 6 to Season 7 will remain until they expire or are completed.

Bungie says it will continue to specifically monitor the Enhancement Core and Infusion economy to try to improve the frustrations that players have while balancing the inherent need to keep Infusion a meaningful and consequential decision.
